HOODED CRANE Continues - Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge, Meigs County, TN - 1/1/12 - UPDATED

Hi All,

The could-be ABA rarity Code 5 HOODED CRANE (a Siberian and Manchurian crane which winters in China, Korea, and Japan), provenance unknown, and first reported with Sandhill Cranes at the famous Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Meigs County, Tennessee on 12/13/11, continues as of 1/1/12! The Hooded Crane has been see almost daily at the site since first found. There has been speculation that this may be the same bird that was seen in Idaho during spring 2010, and in Nebraska during spring 2011!

My 12/17 video update from Georgia Birders Online (GABO-L) including GPS coordinates:

  1. I think I just saw a hooded crane in the creek at the edge of our woods in the neighborhood. The pictures I have found online are similar to the bird I saw. Are there any better photos online of hooded cranes?
