HERALD PETREL (Trindade) - Pelagic Waters, NC/SC - 6/29/11

Hi All,

A North Carolina HERALD PETREL (Trindade) was seen in pelagic waters about 310 miles (about 270 nautical miles) due east of the central Georgia coast on 6/29 from the NOAA Ship Gordon Gunter!

According to the American Birding Association the bird is countable in North Carolina due to its location (although due east of the central Georgia coast) being closer to the coast of that state. However, this bird was seen within 200 nautical miles of South Carolina as well.

Good Near Georgia Birding!
