YELLOW-BILLED LOON - Indian River, Brevard County, FL - 12/14-28/10 - POSSIBLE-PROBABLE - UPDATED

Hi All,

A POSSIBLE YELLOW-BILLED LOON was first reported from the Indian River in Brevard County, Florida on 12/14. The bird has continued at the site and was last reported on the 28th.

The main problem with the definite identification of the loon as I understand it has been that the bird has been very far out on the river and diagnostic photos have not been possible so far.

I have been waiting for a definite ID of the bird prior to posting it on The NGR as I generally do not report possible or probable birds. Due to the importance of a possible Yellow-billed Loon in Florida, or anywhere in the southeast, or the importance of similar accidental birds in the southeast that are listed as possible or probable, I've decided to open a POSSIBLE-PROBABLE section on The NGR for possibly significant birds whose ID is still being worked out. This way folks following The NGR will be aware of these birds and their status.

You can follow the status of the loon's ID on Birdbrains as well at:
