Long-billed Dowitchers - Bartow County, GA - 10/27/10

Hi All,

On 10/27, and due to the same weather event which brought a record number of Franklin's Gulls into Georgia, a combined shorebird fallout of 159 birds was reported from two locations on the Bartow County Loop in Bartow County in northwestern Georgia.

58 of the birds were Long-billed Dowitchers! Long-billed Dowitcher is a rare transient in the Georgia interior, and while Long-billeds are supposedly an uncommon to rare winter visitor to the Georgia coast they are very hard to find and there are no known reliable spots for them. 58 Long-billed Dowitchers is probably a new daily high count for the state!
