Franklin's Gulls - West Point Lake/Lake Sidney Lanier, GA - 10/27-29/10 - UPDATED

Hi All,

The recent very significant weather events this week brought an unprecedented number of migrating Franklin's Gulls into Georgia! 42+ were seen at West Point Lake in Troup County on the 27th, and another 10 were found at Lake Sidney Lanier in Forsyth and Hall counties on the 27th.

The Lanier birds were not relocated on the 28th, the West Point birds were seen on the 28th and the 29th, and folks are out today as well hoping to see them.

The West Point birds were seen ranging into Alabama waters as well at times.

Max Medley and I also checked Lake Water F. George on the 28th and had a raft of 110+ gulls that appeared to be Franklin's as well but the distance was just too far to be certain.

42+ Franklin's Gulls shatters the previous high count of 11 on 31 October 1998 at Lake Walter F. George by a very wide margin, and to get another 10 at the same time at Lake Lanier, quite significant!
