With the rainy weekend forecast for much of Georgia there may be nothing better to do than go SC Ruff hunting (not sure what the SC forecast is, but does it matter in this case)!

Bear Island WMA is closed on Sundays, it may be best to call the WMA today to find out about any hunting schedules, etc. The area is open for general public visitation in designated areas from February 1- October 14, Monday - Saturday.

Subject: Near Georgia Report*: Tufted Duck - Winston-Salem NC #2

Hi All,

Stan Chapman, Max Medley, and I observed the Tufted Duck today from about 10:00am until 1:00pm! Very nice as the pond is not large and great looks can be had quite easily! The bird is very cooperative! See previous post for more information:

Subject: Near Georgia Report*: Tufted Duck - Winston-Salem NC

Hi All,

The Tufted Duck first found on Friday January 30th continues at the Archie Elledge Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on Griffith Road in Winston-Salem North Carloina! The bird has been seen daily since, including today (the plant was closed on Sunday)!

If accepted, I believe that this will be the first record of the species for North Carolina! There also is not a Georgia or South Carolina Tufted Duck on record.

For reference only: The location is just about as far from Atlanta as the location of the Lake City Florida Masked Duck!
